The Writer vs Employer

TIME TO HAVE THIS DEBATE

This debate between writers and employers on who shoulders the penalties of fines and account closure is long overdue. We might as well get it over with. Employers will tell you that a lost account or DC pains you to the core. No amount of punishment on the writer will cover these losses. On the flip side, all writers should not suffer for the sins of one writer in your team.

WRITERS BEWARE

If you are working under an employer and your 2-pages make the account be closed, it would be very unfair to ask ulipwe your dues, bar the one order that caused the mess. Imagine an account that costs 250K imefungwa juu yako; that is enough to make you realize the gravity of your blunder.

EMPLOYER PREPAREDNESS

We all know the pain of losing your income earner. We also have been in your shoes. That does not mean you have to make the whole world suffer for the mistakes of one writer. Being an employer means you did a cost-benefit analysis between working on the orders yourself and getting a group of writers to manage. Whichever one you choose, you need to be ready for the consequences. In this case, you need spare cash to compensate the innocent writers in case it all goes south. Note; I didn’t say you tell them to wait till you can raise the amount. Also, there are various ways to protect your account or website. If you lose your income earner to the lateness of work, your management skills are in question, not the writer’s.

CHOOSING PEACE

Let me give you a short story. Back in the day, more than 7 years ago, I decided that managing accounts was not my thing. I hesitantly sold my 4-year-old uvocorp account. 2 weeks later, the buyer came back saying I sold him a bad account and it was no more. I checked the reason for the closure, and they had quoted three orders there; one was mine, 2 were his. I knew telling him that his poor quality was what attracted the QAD to go through the whole account, so I just refunded the guy his money. I chose peace of mind over justice. Sometimes as an employer, you need to remember the income these writers have helped you gain over the years, not just the one or two they have messed up. You might also choose to be the bigger man and pay the writer and say Adios Amigos wishing you the best in your future endeavors.
