Discussion Description

  1. Discuss ancient Greek gods - use examples from at least three stories that address ancient Greek beliefs and then reflect upon the implications of those examples upon your own cultural beliefs and the beliefs purveyed by others around you.  

2. It appears that cultures in any given period, have a sort of wisdom that circulates within and may even play some part in the ideological governance of society. Such wisdom is often informed by a variety of theories that assess ethical fairness, balance, equality of opportunity, legality, justice, human rights and so on. Discuss some of the theories, as presented in the ancient Greek and Chinese cultures. Use at least two examples, for each culture and also address the implications of those examples upon your own ideological framework and the ideas purveyed by others around you.  



Learning Outcomes

1. Students will write a discussion response to a specific question wherein they identify and reflect upon relevant central concepts, historical development and the fundamental nature of human civilization, philosophy, architecture, music, religion and art, as well as connect personal experience to the humanities by interpreting works of art, literature, philosophy, or religion, etc. within different cultural perspectives within the textbook.  Communication Skills: Students will present a clear thesis followed by specific and accurate support that is arranged in a coherent, ordered fashion.   Critical Thinking: Students will assess the strengths and weaknesses of argument.  Information Literacy: Students will accurately represent an argument of importance relative to a contemporary understanding of human civilization.
