Week 10 Discussion: What do you believe is the most critical component of person-centered care? Why does this aspect hold such significance in the nursing profession?
Suzanna, posting , need to reply to the post
In my opinion, listening is the most important aspect of person-centered care. Listening to a patient and understanding their values, preferences, and goals allows you to include these when creating a plan of care. Instead of only focusing on the diagnosis or tasks that need to be done, you listen to what is most important to the patient.

Nursing is unique in that we spend so much time with our patients and often become their voice. By using therapeutic communication and listening we can identify concerns, correct any misunderstandings, maintain autonomy and encourage shared decision-making. When patients feel heard and respected, they will have more trust in you and their healthcare team. They will be more likely to take an active role in their care and follow through with the plan of treatment. Active listening allows you to build a stronger relationship with your patient and provide care that is not only expert but also compassionate and individualized to their needs.
