In this class, students will design and carry out an experiment that follows the scientific method. You will create a testable question, collect your own data, analyze that data using statistical methods, draw conclusions from your results, and explain what those conclusions mean.

Students who took Principles of Biology I at GMC will have already started this project in that course. Students who did not take that course should begin as soon as possible to allow enough time to complete all parts of the project before the end of the term.

To make the project more manageable, it has been divided into several “mini submissions.” Each mini submission focuses on specific sections of the final paper, which will be submitted in full during Module 7.

This mini submission will include:

• Results
• Statistical Analysis
• Photos of set up
• Discussion

Students should carefully review the rubric attached to this assignment to be sure all required components are included. Note that the use of AI in writing this paper is prohibited.  

**NOTE: If student data is not available at this time to complete this section but you would like to move onto the next module then you need to reach out to your instructor via email or Canvas messaging to be advised of next steps. 

Final Submission Requirements

The final paper must meet the following requirements:

• To earn the highest score in the Literature Cited category, your paper must include at least four primary sources.

• Sources must be listed in the Literature Cited section and cited in-text using the (Author, Year) format at the point where they are used. Sources that are not cited in text will not count.

• Turnitin will be used to check originality and calculate a similarity score. Generating a similarity report can take up to 24 hours or longer. If you wait until the last day to submit, you may not receive a similarity report before the deadline, but you are still responsible for meeting the requirements.
