Imagine you have recently begun a practicum experience and your field instructor asks you to prepare for an upcoming case consultation meeting. To help you organize your thinking, your field instructor asks you to review one client case and create a brief visual aid that demonstrates how a generalist social worker would understand and respond to the situation.

Your written portion should not read like a formal essay, but instead serve as a discussion guide for your presentation. You may choose to create a detailed outline, concept map, infographic, PowerPoint slide, or another visual format that helps organize your ideas.

Step 1: Review a Case

Review one of the following case scenarios:

Step 2: Analyze the Case

Using the concepts from this Unit, address the following:

1. Describe what you know about the client or family from an ecological or systems perspective. Some areas to consider include:
   1. Individual strengths and challenges
   2. Family relationships and support
   3. Community influences
   4. Organizations, institutions, or systems that impact the client
   5. Environmental factors that may contribute to the presenting concerns
2. Identify and explain social work roles that may be appropriate in this case (ex. Broker, counselor, educator, etc.). Explain why you think these roles would be helpful for the client or family.
3. Discuss the levels of practice that may be involved in addressing the concerns presented in the case. Consider and explain how one or more of these levels may be used to support positive change.

4. Discuss the type(s) of advocacy (case advocacy, cause advocacy, or both) needed to address the social issue, barrier, or injustice affecting the client or family, and how a social worker might advocate for change on their behalf.
